The final day of the MEVZA U18 Beach Volleyball Championship in Portorož delivered thrilling matches and crowned the new regional champions, as teams from Austria and Czechia celebrated gold medals in the European Championship qualification tournament.
In the men’s tournament, Austrian duo Blok/Reischl completed an impressive campaign by capturing the title after a dramatic three-set victory over Czech pair Novotny/Votava in the final. The Austrians recovered after losing the opening set to claim a 2-1 win (16-21, 24-22, 15-11) and secure the championship crown.
Earlier in the semifinals, Blok/Reischl defeated fellow Austrians Luckinger/Trummer in another hard-fought three-set battle, 2-1 (21-12, 18-21, 15-11), while Novotny/Votava advanced with a convincing 2-0 victory (21-7, 21-14) over Slovakia’s Hunady/Kalma.

The bronze medal match also went the distance, with LUCKINGER/Trummer overcoming Hunady/Kalma 2-1 (16-21, 21-16, 15-12) to secure third place for Austria.
In the women’s competition, Czech pair Sebova/Mifkova claimed the title with a straight-set victory over top-seeded Hungarians Honti-Majoros/Padar. The Czech team produced a composed performance in the gold medal match to win 2-0 (21-19, 21-17).
Sebova/Mifkova booked their place in the final by defeating Hungary’s Kis/Muranyi 2-0 (21-18, 21-13) in the semifinals, while Honti-Majoros/Padar edged fellow Czech pair Rosi/Cervinkova in a tense three-set encounter, winning 2-1 (24-22, 15-21, 15-11).

The bronze medal went to Rosi/Cervinkova, who delivered a dominant performance in the third-place match to defeat Kis/Muranyi 2-0 (21-18, 21-7).
Starting today and running until July 7, Portorož will also host the MEVZA U20 Championship, another European Championship qualification tournament featuring the region’s top young beach volleyball players.
