Despite a 1-3 (14-25, 14-25, 25-23, 21-25) loss at CEV Cup semi-finalists HAOK Mladost ZAGREB on Friday night, Nova KBM Branik MARIBOR booked the last ticket to the Final Four tournament of the women’s MEVZA League. Both teams ended the regular season on 14 points from a 5-5 win-loss record, but MARIBOR secured the third place because of a slightly better set ratio (1.06 vs 0.95).
Besides MARIBOR, regular season winners OK Calcit KAMNIK, Vasas Óbuda BUDAPEST and hosts VB NÖ SOKOL/POST are qualified for the Final Four tournament scheduled for February 23 and 24 in Vienna. However, before the women’s competition will reach its climax, the main phase will be completed this weekend. SOKOL/POST and bottom-of-the-table OK Marina KASTELA will be facing each other twice in Maribor.
