CEV, Luxembourg. Tent OBRENOVAC and BEZIERS Angels claimed on Wednesday a spot in the semis of the women’s CEV Volleyball Cup 2021 following comprehensive 3-0 wins in their respective quarterfinal matches with Vasas Obuda BUDAPEST and C.S.M. TARGOVISTE.
In Zagreb, BEZIERS Angels needed 71 minutes only to thump C.S.M. TARGOVISTE 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 27-25). The Romanians had previously edged past the hosts of this ‘bubble’, Mladost ZAGREB, while BEZIERS Angels did not contest their 8th Final fixture at all following the withdrawal of Volero LE CANNET from the competition. Argentinean Paula Yamila Nizetich, who has Croatian roots through her grandfather, scored 10 times for the winners, but their actual top scorer was Malina Terrell on a personal tally of 18 points. BEZIERS Angels have reached the semis of a European Cup for the second straight season after achieving the same feat last year in the Challenge Cup. Unfortunately, the 2019-2020 season ended abruptly due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

Over to Serbia, Tent OBRENOVAC delivered a superb performance in their matchup with Vasas Obuda BUDAPEST to claim a 3-0 win (25-20, 26-24, 25-19) as well and secure a spot in the semis – the first Serbian team to achieve this feat since Crvena Zvezda BEOGRAD reached that stage of the competition back in 2011. Croatian Sanja Gamma scored as many as 22 points for Vasas Obuda, but Tent OBRENOVAC made the difference with their solid blocking and serving game, as Ana Mitrovic scored 19 points for the hosts. Matea Petrovic stood out as well, with three aces and a number of Serbian players – Mitrovic, Ana Malesevic and Jelena Lazic – all scored three blocks apiece to contribute to the victory.
