Mursa Osijek Crowned MEVZA League Champions After Five-Set Thriller

MOK Mursa Osijek claimed the MEVZA League title on home court in Osijek, defeating MAV Elore Foxconn in a thrilling five-set final, 3-2 (25-21, 25-20, 21-25, 14-25, 15-11), after two and a half hours of high-quality volleyball.

The home side opened the match in dominant fashion, controlling the first set from start to finish without allowing their opponents to take the lead. In the second set, MAV Elore Foxconn offered stronger resistance, but Mursa Osijek remained composed in the decisive moments to secure another 25-20 win and take a 2-0 lead in sets.

The momentum then shifted to the Hungarian side. Mursa failed to take the lead at any point in the third set, allowing their opponents to reduce the deficit. The fourth set followed a similar pattern, with MAV Elore Foxconn taking control midway through and leveling the match at 2-2, forcing a decisive fifth set.

In the tie-break, however, Mursa Osijek delivered a perfect response. After an early 1-1 tie, the hosts went on a remarkable run to build a 7-1 lead, setting the tone for the remainder of the set. Although the Hungarian team managed to stabilize their play, they were unable to seriously threaten the lead, as Mursa closed the set 15-11 to secure a well-deserved victory and a historic trophy.

Statistically, the Croatian side held the edge in attack (53-43) and blocking (14-11), while MAV Elore Foxconn performed better on serve (11-7) and committed fewer errors (26-37).

The standout performer of the final, and the tournament’s MVP, was Leo Andri? with 24 points, including 2 aces and 2 blocks. Alexandru Buzdugan added 20 points, while Gabriel Šunje contributed 12 points, six of them from blocks. On the opposing side, Marcel Pesti led his team with 17 points.

Earlier in the day, HAOK Mladost Zagreb secured the bronze medal with a 3-0 win (25-22, 25-20, 25-16) over SK Zadruga AICH/DOB.

The match for third place was significantly impacted by an early injury to Lukas Micheu, the only setter of the Austrian team, forcing other players to take over playmaking duties. This disruption was clearly reflected in their offensive organization, while Mladost took advantage with a solid all-around performance.

The Zagreb side finished stronger in attack (43-32) and blocking (12-7), while also committing fewer errors (16-19). The Austrian team recorded more aces (3-1), but it was not enough to challenge Mladost’s overall control of the match.
