Milano, Italy. On Wednesday late afternoon, Allianz Powervolley MILANO and Dinamo BUCURESTI will lock horns at the iconic Allianz Cloud in Milan with a spot in the semis of the men’s CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup 2021 at stake. The two teams did not drop a single set in their respective 8th Final matches with Calcit Volley KAMNIK (SLO) and Marek Union Ivkoni DUPNITSA (BUL) on Tuesday.
Allianz Powervolley MILANO were especially dominant in their matchup with KAMNIK (25-19, 25-18, 25-16). They are now only a step away from reaching the semis for the second straight season, after last year the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic ended the competition prematurely before the semi-finals could take place.
Mitja Gasparini, Calcit Volley captain: “MILANO made the difference with their service game; moreover, they made a few more blocks, and they played really fast. Every week they play matches of a similar quality, whilst we played such a match today only. One can see they do not get confused in difficult moments, they know how to pick themselves up quickly and to take advantage of the qualities of their individuals and the team as a whole in the next rally.”
Gregor Jeroncic, head coach of Calcit Volley: “We met a very well organised, smart team. They served very well, which I cannot claim for my team. This is where the biggest difference was tonight. Attacking was difficult due to our poor reception, while the opponents were able to fire their players up with a good reception. You could see the difference in quality, and we know where they belong. We have to take this as a lesson, compare their game with ours and try to eliminate today’s mistakes for the next matches we contest this season.”
