Every summer in Kranj, we traditionally follow beach volleyball tournaments of the highest level. For many years, the local organizers from OK Triglav Kranj organized a national championship for members who are moving to Mezica this year, but this time they decided to take a step forward and bring the Central European MEVZA Championship Tour to us.
“Following an agreement with the general sponsor who has helped us in recent years, Zavarovalnica Sava, we decided to step up a notch. For a long time, we have been thinking about organizing the Beach Pro Tour Future World Series tournament or the Central European Championship, and after discussions with the management of the Central European Association, we decided on the latter. Immediately after that, we started with all the activities, which are going well for now. This is how we will upgrade our national championship for the first time, and Kranj deserves such an event. The stands have always been too small for all fans of volleyball and sports, and this is now also a kind of gift to our loyal spectators from Kranj and beyond,” said tournament director Saso Rop.
Rop has already confirmed that the interest of the teams is exceptional: “In both the women’s and the men’s competition, more than 25 doubles have already been registered, which means that we will already be monitoring the maximum number of teams in the qualifiers. Some of the best pairs from Austria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia have confirmed their participation, we also received applications from Israel, Croatia and England, and of course from Slovenia, and we are also expecting Hungarian and Cypriot teams. Slovenian member volleyball, which, as far as the number of domestic series tournaments is concerned, is unfortunately somewhat in decline, needs such competitions. Our best players need such opportunities to prove themselves, and I am sure that the spectators will also enjoy top-class beach volleyball.”
The competition will take place between July 26 and 29 at the Stara Sava parking lot, and at the same time the renowned Kranfest festival will take place in Kranj.
Tickets for the MEVZA Championship Tour are now available on Eventim.
It is also worth noting that this year’s matches of the best Central European doubles will not be watched only in Kranj. Young Slovenian volleyball hopefuls will compete with their peers from Austria, Croatia, Hungary, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Israel and Slovakia at the MEVZA Central European Championships under 18 and under 20, which will be hosted by Koper and Portoroz between the 5th and 7th of July.
