MEVZA Men’s Senior Championship: Knockout Stage Takes Shape in Remerschen

The second day of the 2026 MEVZA Men’s Senior Championship in Remerschen, Luxembourg, delivered an exciting programme as the pool stage concluded before the competition moved into the Round of 12 and quarterfinals. Teams battled for places in Sunday’s semifinals, with four pairs securing their spots in the final four.

Pool A concluded with Israel’s Yanay Benjamin Goldshmid Fisher / Omer Gozlan defeating Croatia’s Bacic / Sos 2-0 (21-17, 21-17), while Czech qualifiers Oliva / Kuthan secured their place in the knockout stage with a 2-0 (21-17, 21-14) victory over Waber / Jezek.

In Pool B, Hungary’s Pongracz / Goudie claimed a hard-fought 2-1 (21-18, 17-21, 15-11) victory over Luxembourg’s Wolff / Pernossi, while Slovenia’s Jevsnik / Mugerli also advanced to the knockout stage.

Pool C concluded with Austria’s Kitzmuller / Holzner defeating Czech qualifiers Polednik / Ruml 2-0 (21-15, 21-18) to secure a place in the knockout stage, while Slovakia’s Nemec / Jancok remained unbeaten in the group.

In Pool D, Czech qualifiers Tusek / Novotny defeated compatriots Votava / Kudrnovsky 2-0 (21-15, 21-17) to book their place in the Round of 12 alongside group winners Olsansky / Westphal.

The afternoon Round of 12 produced several closely contested encounters. Czech qualifiers Tusek / Novotny edged Austria’s Friedl / Schnetzer 2-1 (21-18, 19-21, 15-7), while Israel’s Goldshmid Fisher / Gozlan were eliminated after a 2-1 (21-18, 19-21, 15-11) defeat to Czech pair Bercik / Bercik. Waber / Jezek advanced with a straight-set victory over Hungary’s Pongracz / Goudie (21-11, 21-16), and hosts Hilbert / Weber kept Luxembourg’s hopes alive by defeating Austria’s Kitzmuller / Holzner 2-0 (21-10, 23-21).

The quarterfinals completed the semifinal lineup. Slovenia’s Jevsnik / Mugerli defeated Tusek / Novotny 2-0 (21-16, 21-19), while Olsansky / Westphal overcame fellow Czechs Bercik / Bercik in three sets (24-26, 21-18, 14-16). Slovakia’s Nemec / Jancok also needed three sets to eliminate top seeds Waber / Jezek (21-11, 25-27, 15-8), and Czech qualifiers Oliva / Kuthan completed the final four with a 2-1 (21-19, 15-21, 9-15) victory over Luxembourg’s Hilbert / Weber.

Sunday’s semifinals will feature Jevsnik / Mugerli (SLO) against Olsansky / Westphal (CZE), while Nemec / Jancok (SVK) will meet Oliva / Kuthan (CZE) for a place in the championship match.
