MARIBOR – As the host of another MEVZA tournament, Merkur Maribor defeated Mursa Osijek with 3-0
Merkur Maribor start their fourth season in MEVZA with win. They have a whole game under the control a deservedly win against Osijek. In the first set, Merkur gained the advantage in the middle of the set and won by 7 points difference.
Second set was a little bit tighter. Guests from Osijek had a lead almost a whole set, but in the end host turn over and take another part of the game in their behalf. Result was 26-24, and last set was almost like the first one. Maribor took the lead in the beginning and keep 5 or 6 points through whole last section of the game and get convincing win.
After the game Merkur Maribor head coach Sebastijan Škorc said: “Every start is difficult, but with such a rejuvenated team you go with the desire to start with a win. We played well today, but it’s just one game and it doesn’t mean anything yet. We have to keep working, and congratulations to the boys for the win. Tomorrow, we have another match against Amstetten, who have seven foreigners in their ranks.”
Mursa Osijek today plays against Amstetten at 8 p.m., and the last game of this tournament will be match between Maribor and Amstetten.
