In the men’s MEVZA League, OK Calcit KAMNIK secured three very important points in the race for a Final Four spot on Saturday. The Slovenian team needed 94 minutes to celebrate a 3-1 (25-15, 23-25, 25-21, 25-14) win over HAOK Mladost ZAGREB on home soil. Tommi Siirilä and Jan Klobucar top scored for the hosts with 12 and 11 points, respectively, while Kruno Nikacevic (13) and Ivan Zeljkovic (12) were the best scorers for the away side.
As a result, KAMNIK moved up to third place in the current standing now three points ahead of Croatia’s reigning national champions and eight points behind second-placed OK Merkur MARIBOR. Table leaders ACH Volley LJUBLJANA and host SK Zadruga AICH/DOB are already confirmed as Final Four participants.
Matija Plesko, head coach OK Calcit KAMNIK: “We were also leading in the second set and then we let up for a moment. But all in all, we delivered a solid performance. We paid a lot of attention to their opposite Boris Busa and that was a key that got us the win.”
A COVID-19 outbreak has resulted in the postponement of Sunday’s match TJ Spartak MYJAVA vs. SK Zadruga AICH/DOB (AUT). Therefore, the men’s competition will continue on Monday, when the still unbeaten defending champions ACH Volley LJUBLJANA (SLO) will be hosting UVC Holding GRAZ (AUT).
