Izmir, Turkey. The 2020 edition of #EuroBeachVolleyU18 will start on Thursday in Izmir at Pamucak Beach, right on the shores of the Aegean Sea. Some of the rising stars of European Beach Volleyball will have the opportunity to test their skills on the international stage for the very first time and they will for sure put up a fight to achieve a good result at the competition. The local organisers will do their best to guarantee perfect conditions as well as a safe environment for all teams and participants in compliance with the measures recommended by international and national health authorities to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.
As per the rules currently in place in Turkey, the matches will be taking place behind closed doors in an effort to prevent any possible risk of infection. The local staff will be responsible for the regular cleaning and disinfecting of the referee stand, players’ benches, warm-up courts, match balls and all other infrastructure / equipment.
There will be no qualification round, so the competition begins on Thursday with the pool stage, featuring eight groups of four teams in each gender. This opening stage of the tournament will end on Friday, followed by the knockout phase at the weekend. The semi-finals and finals will then follow on Sunday with live broadcasting.
This event and #EuroBeachVolleyU22 scheduled for next week will continue the success story of international competitions hosted in Turkey, where a number of age-group continental and global championships have taken place in recent times. Izmir, a true cosmopolitan city, will welcome the rising stars of European Beach Volleyball in 2020 and in 2021 as well, after previously playing host to a BVA (Balkan Volleyball Association) zonal event in the summer of 2019. As previously announced, next year the Turkish city will be hosting the U20 continental event.
