Age is no handicap
This year’s International Veteran Volleyball Tournament crosses the borders of Europe.
After success in 2018, third tournament will take place in Ostrava and according to the interest of teams it seems that this year we will move even further, beyond the European continent.
“Last year was a great success, we had 36 teams from 13 different European countries and during the three playing days, the tournament participants played over 100 matches. This year seems to be breakthrough as we have interest of teams outside Europe as USA, Mexico, maldives and Mongolia.” says former member of the Czech Olympic team in beach volleyball Mr. Premysl Kubala, Vice-president of the non-profit organization called IVVA – Veteran Volleyball.
IVVA organizes the tournament in cooperation with Czech Volleyball Federation and Middle European Volleyball Zonal Association to ensure making this event as close as possible to other official volleyball championships.
“We are very glad that other volleyball associations are joining to help us as the USA to spread the word in each world region. Our main objective is to create an official tradition for veteran players, which would let them get together from all over the world, have fun and compete against each other in different age categories. The tournament is designed for both former professionals and volleyball amateurs with only one simple motto Age is no handicap” adds Mr. Jan Kapera President of the organizing institute.
The IVVA tournament will begin on Thursday, June 20, and start the main competition in Friday morning in the following age categories:
- Men (40-47, 48-55, 56+),
- Women (35-45, 46+).
“Part of the third year is also a complete redesign of the IVVA identity to keep up with the times. We are trying to bring a breath of fresh air into this segment and in this spirit we are also creating the whole event so that all participants enjoyed and remembered it and returned back.” told Pavel Kuchta, member of the IVVA team and tournament coordinator.
