Extreme weather leads to match day cancellation in Jurmala at CEV EuroBeachVolley 2020

Jurmala, Latvia. Following two successful and extremely entertaining match days at the CEV EuroBeachVolley 2020 in Jurmala, Latvia, beach volleyball fans were looking forward to a third match day that would decide who qualifies to the next stages of the event.

However, all the plans made came to a halt as the weather conditions in Jurmala became increasingly worse, with high intensity winds and rain making it impossible for any matches to take place.

Despite the great efforts of the Local Organizing Committee and the staff present on site throughout the late hours of the previous night, as well as the early ones of this morning, the decision of postponing the matches until further notice had to be made, with a view of reassessing the situation once more information would be available.

A decision regarding the schedule of tomorrow’s match day would also be made as soon as clearer indications on the weather forecast will be available.

After a long day of looking for alternatives that would allow the athletes to get back on the court, the solution found was to move the matches to Ruukki Beach Center Jurmala were four courts will be available for use, unfortunately no spectators being allowed at the venue to the safety measures in place.
