Kamnik, Slovenia. Calcit Volley KAMNIK overcame Nova KBM Branik MARIBOR in the 2020-21 Slovenia’s national championship final with three victories in three matches and claimed a second consecutive National Championship title. SIP Šempeter completes the podium with a third place.
Calcit Volley celebrated their fifth championship title after three straight victories over Nova KBM Branik in the final series of the 2020-21 »Sportklub prva odbojkarska liga«. The best two Slovenian teams of the last decade faced each other six times this season, with Calcit Volley emerging as the winner on all of the occasions.
The final series was interrupted by a 12-day coronavirus lockdown after the team from Kamnik was already ahead with 2-0 in wins. It seemed that the unexpected break helped Nova KBM Branik to bounce back, when the team from Maribor took an early lead with 0-2 in sets, but Calcit Volley boosted their performance for a comeback win and also the third consecutive 3-2 win.
“After the 18 day break, we did not find our rhythm at all in the first two sets. The lack of training was evident, but when it was the most needed my team stepped together, players started believing in each other again, and we managed to bounce back. I am very proud of every single one of my players and happy that this unpredictable final series ended in our favour. At the same time, I am sorry that our fans weren’t allowed to cheer for us in the hall, but I believe that they will be back with us already in the next season,” commented the head coach of Calcit Volley, Gregor Rozman.
Best Slovenia’s volleyball players won’t have any time to rest. Already tomorrow the national team will gather in the training base in Kranjska Gora and start preparing for the 2021 CEV EuroVolley qualifiers. For that reason, the Volleyball Federation of Slovenia had to cancel the women’s Cup Final. The men’s part of the competition will be played shortly after the conclusion of the national championship. ACH Volley Ljubljana leads by 2-0 in wins against Merkur Maribor, while Calcit Volley already claimed third place.
