The MEVZA Senior Beach Volleyball Championship started today in Innsbruck, delivering an exciting series of matches in Pool D, where teams from Austria, Hungary, Czechia and Slovakia went head-to-head in closely contested battles.
Women’s competition
Hungarian pair Stefánia Flóra Kun and Kinga Melinda Windisch kicked off their day with a thrilling 2:1 victory over the Czech duo Anna Dostálová and Justýna Frommová. The Hungarians showed great resilience, bouncing back from a tough opening set to claim the next two in a tight contest. Their solid teamwork and determination were key to their first victory of the day.
In another matchup, the Czech Republic’s Tereza Lajkebová and Veronika Kleiblová cruised to a commanding 2:0 win over Slovakia’s Silvia Poszmiková and Katarina Kapralova. The Czech duo displayed exceptional skill, overpowering their Slovak opponents with a solid combination of attacks and defense to secure a straight-sets victory. However, the tables turned for the Hungarian team when they faced Lajkebová and Kleiblová later in the day. After a hard-fought match, Kun and Windisch couldn’t replicate their earlier success, falling 1:2 to the Czech pair. Lajkebová and Kleiblová maintained their momentum from their first match, outlasting the Hungarian team in a gripping third set, further solidifying their dominance in Pool D.
Meanwhile, Dostálová and Frommová were unable to recover from their initial loss and suffered another defeat, this time at the hands of Poszmiková and Kapralova. The Slovak pair bounced back in style, securing a 2:0 win and regaining confidence after their earlier setback.
Men’s competition
In Pool A, Timo Hammarberg and Tim Liam Berger from Austria had a dominant performance, winning both of their matches. They first defeated the Slovakian duo Kamil Pavlinsky and Patrik Marcok in straight sets, 2-0. In their second match, they faced off against Bence Tari and Akos Veress from Hungary and again secured a convincing 2-0 win, asserting their position as strong contenders.
Another key match in Pool A saw the Hungarian pair, Bence Tari and Akos Veress, managing a 2-1 victory against the Czech team of Tomáš Pála and Ond?ej Šotola, showcasing their resilience. However, they could not maintain their momentum when they encountered the Austrian team later in the day. The Czech team, Tomáš Pála and Ond?ej Šotola, also recorded a win, beating the Slovakian pair of Kamil Pavlinsky and Patrik Marcok 2-0.
In Pool B, Christopher Dressler and Alexander Horst proved to be a formidable team. They delivered a commanding performance in both of their matches, winning 2-0 against Marek Pohl and Jan Beran of the Czech Republic, and later defeating Adrián Petruf and Lubos Nemec from Slovakia in straight sets. The Slovakian duo Adrián Petruf and Lubos Nemec had earlier notched a hard-fought 2-1 win against the Hungarian team of Csanád Petik and Levente Polgár, but couldn’t keep up their momentum against the strong Austrian side.
Mathias Seiser and Moritz Fabian Kindl from Austria dominated their matches in Pool C, securing a 2-0 victory over Fabian Kandolf and Raphael Trauth, as well as overcoming the Czech team of František Knobloch and Martin Melmuka with the same scoreline. The Czech duo Knobloch and Melmuka had earlier clinched a 2-1 victory in a close contest against their compatriots Jan Dumek and Tadeas Milichovsky, keeping the competition in Pool C intense. In a notable match later in the day, Fabian Kandolf and Raphael Trauth bounced back from their earlier defeat, securing a tough 2-1 victory over the Czech team of Jan Dumek and Tadeas Milichovsky.
In Pool D, competition was equally fierce. The Austrian duo Laurenc Peter Grössig and Maximilian Trummer fought hard but ultimately lost 1-2 in a close match against the Czech team of Vojtech Poledník and Krystof Nemec. However, the Austrian team regained their composure and later claimed a strong 2-0 victory against Ondrej Pohl and Jiri Dostal from Czechia.
Meanwhile, Florian Michael Schnetzer and Paul Pascariuc of Austria showcased their dominance, winning both of their matches in straight sets. They first defeated Ondrej Pohl and Jiri Dostal 2-0 and later secured another 2-0 victory against Vojtech Poledník and Krystof Nemec.
