In an exhilarating match on their home turf, VCA Amstetten NÖ triumphed in a five-set thriller against Croatia’s previous season runner-up, MOK Mursa Osijek, in the final game of the third MEVZA tournament at Amstetten. The contest began on an even keel, but Osijek soon gained a four-point lead at 12-8 in the first set. Maintaining their advantage, Osijek reached six set points and, unlike their previous struggle against Zagreb, they secured the first set 25-18 by winning the first set point.
The second set was a tighter affair, locked at 18-18. However, Osijek managed to carve out a slight edge and, despite Amstetten’s resilient defense on the first set ball, Osijek clinched the set 25-23 on their second attempt. Rallying in the third set, the hosts rebounded strongly to win 25-17.
Gaining momentum from their third-set victory, the Austrians established a modest three-point lead at 13-10 in the fourth set. Although Osijek fought back, Amstetten pressed on to win the fourth set 25-18, leveling the match at 2-2. The tension reached its peak in the decisive fifth set, with both teams fiercely maintaining their side-outs. Ultimately, Amstetten, seizing their first match points, won the set and secured their third victory in this year’s MEVZA league.
