ACH Volley LJUBLJANA upsets NARBONNE Volley in the Away Match, however falls short of the final in the Golden Set

ACH Volley Ljubljana managed an unbelievable comeback win in France to send the matchup into an all-decisive golden set, which Narbonne Volley ended up taking and herewith reached the final stage of the men’s CEV Challenge Cup.

NARBONNE Volley vs. ACH Volley LJUBLJANA  2-3 (25-17, 25-17, 28-30, 18-25, 13-15); Golden Set:15-9

NARBONNE Volley reached the final in a very contrasting fashion. The French team ended up needing a Golden Set to edge MEVZA League winners ACH Volley LJUBLJANA of Slovenia. NARBONNE had secured a 3-2 away victory last week but lost the re-match at home by the same score, after having won the first two sets of the rematch with a safe margin. However, it was LJUBLJANA, who once again this season showed an unbelievable character and fighting spirit and turned around a seemingly lost match. With a hard-fought 28-26 in the third set, they completely changed the momentum of the match. On the wings of their star opposite Gjorgiev they managed to win the away match in 5 sets. Narbonne was able to get a better start into the golden set and quickly pull away from the Slovenian team with much help coming from their Brazilian opposite Rafael Rodrigues de Araujo, who scored as many as 30 points. The achievement of NARBONNE Volley is nevertheless remarkable since they have reached the final in what is their very first appearance in any European Cup competition.
