ACH Volley Ljubljana has achieved a monumental milestone by clinching their 20th Slovenian national championship title, following a third consecutive victory over Calcit Volley in the Sportklub Volleyball League finals.
The climactic third match held at Tivoli Hall was a true spectacle of volleyball prowess, culminating in a nail-biting 3-2 victory for ACH Volley Ljubljana (28-26, 24-26, 25-20, 22-25, 15-12). This victory not only secured their third consecutive championship title but also marked their dominance with a total of 20 national championships since the 2004/05 season. Their only exception was the 2020/21 season when OK Merkur Maribor bested them in the finals.
Despite a strong start to the season, including a victory in the 2023/24 MEVZA League and multiple championship wins, as well as securing the Slovenian Cup title, Calcit Volley’s form declined towards the season’s end. In contrast, ACH Volley Ljubljana, despite ending the 2024 CEV Champions League without a win and facing challenges in the Slovenian Championship, revitalized their campaign with the strategic addition of coach Matjaž Hafner.
The final series concluded unexpectedly after just three matches, largely due to the stellar performances of Slovenian national team member Jani Kova?i?, alongside former national players Jan Pokeršnik and Alen Šket, with Šket earning the MVP title for the finals.
In the contest for the bronze medal, OK i-Vent Maribor triumphed over Panvita Pomgrad with a 2-1 score in their battle for third place, rounding off a season of intense competition and remarkable achievements in Slovenian volleyball.
