MEVZA League – Vasas Óbuda BUDAPEST celebrated third win in a row

In the women’s MEVZA League, OK Marina KASTELA suffered a bitter loss at the hands of Vasas Óbuda BUDAPEST after coming back from two sets down on Saturday night. The Hungarian team edged the bravely fighting hosts in 117 minutes 3-2 (27-25, 25-19, 19-25, 15-25, 15-13). Top scorers: Tea Kojundzic (26) and Nika Stanovic (19); Yuliya Boyko (21) and Adrienn Vezsenyi (17).

Thus, Vasas Óbuda BUDAPEST consolidated its second place in the current standing now on twelve points (4-1), while the Croatian side is still waiting for their first win this season (0-3). Already on Sunday, OK Marina KASTELA will get another opportunity, when they will be facing Vasas Óbuda BUDAPEST on home soil again.

Ioannis Athanasopoulos, head coach Vasas Óbuda BUDAPEST: “We were actually in control of the game, even though the first set was very close. But in the third set, the hosts started to push, they served really well and our reception went down. In the middle of the tie-breaker we made some mistakes, but I am really happy that my players kept sticking together and that they continued to believe in winning the match. To have emerged victorious in the end was very important for us to to maintain mental strength.”

Zsuzsanna Kiraly-Talas, captain Vasas Óbuda BUDAPEST: “In the fifth set, we showed fighting spirit and therefore we were able to come back from 9-12. That proves that we have mental strength in our team.”

Milorad Krunic, head coach OK Marina KASTELA: “That was our very first home match in the MEVZA League. If we could have won the first set, I think we would have secured three points. Nevertheless, we are happy with the score. Because our opponents are a much more experienced team than we are.”
