Slovenia’s national champions OK Calcit KAMNIK started their Women’s MEVZA League campaign with an impressive 3-0 (25-17, 29-27, 25-13) home win over their compatriots Nova KBM Branik MARIBOR on Sunday. Gregor Rozman, head coach of Calcit Volley KAMNIK: “The match was exactly as we expected. When we lost focus and did not go aggressive enough in attacking, they caught us. In the third set, there were some spectacular actions on our side and we were able to finish the match in a confident way.”

Bruno Najdic, head coach of Nova KBM Branik MARIBOR:“Throughout the match, we were not good enough in attacking to be able to hope for anything more. KAMNIK, on the other hand, proved why they are participating in the CEV Champions League. Currently KAMNIK is too strong for us.”

In the men’s competition, Austria’s national champions UVC Holding GRAZ suffered a very disappointing defeat at the hands of SK Zadruga AICH/DOB in another derby. The away team needed just 66 minutes to cruise to a clean sweep (25-15, 25-19, 25-18). While GRAZ had to cope with another setback after losing their second MEVZA League match in a row, AICH/DOB started the season in style. The best performance came from AICH/DOB’s Marino Mareli? – who managed to put 16 points to his name. Johannes Kratz and Sergej Drobni? top scored for GRAZ with 10 points each.

Martin Micheu, sports director SK Zadruga AICH/DOB: “We delivered a very solid performance today, but we should not overestimate this result. The hosts had to compete without Lorenz Koraimann and Lukas Kühl. We are satisfied, but there is definitely room for improvement. However, our start to the season was successful.”

Live streaming of all matches is available for fans to follow the competition as closely as possible.
