Riga, Latvia. On Wednesday night, RIGAS Volejbola Skola lost 1-3 the first of two consecutive matches against TJ OSTRAVA (CZE) scheduled for the 16th Finals of the women’s CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup 2021. The two teams have agreed to play both matches in this round at Daugava sports hall in the Latvian capital, due to the restrictions resulting from the coronavirus pandemic.
The first set was especially tough for the young Latvians, as the Czechs mounted an insurmountable block, which paved the way towards a comprehensive 25-14 win for the visitors. The hosts showed a bit more resistance in the second set, which nevertheless ended in a 25-22 victory for TJ OSTRAVA. RIGAS Volejbola Skola fought back in set three, where they claimed a small advantage, which they kept for most of the time until a very close fight followed towards the end. At 28-28, the setter of TJ OSTRAVA suffered a knee injury and this was a blow for the visiting team – with RIGAS eventually pulling off a 30-28 win. The hosts took some good vibes from this win into the fourth set with the two teams exchanging the lead back and forth before TJ OSTRAVA raised the level of their performance to secure a 25-20 win to seal the match at 3-1 in their favour.
The re-match will be taking place at the same venue on Thursday night, starting at 19:00 local time, with live streaming available at Sportacentrs.com and on Sportacentrs TV Channel – as well as on EuroVolleyTV.
