In the first MEVZA League match this week, Croatia’s multiple national champions Mladost ZAGREB needed just 68 minutes to celebrate a clean sweep (25-17, 25-17, 25-16) of SK Zadruga AICH/DOB from Austria on home soil.
While the hosts improved their win-loss record to 1-1 and moved up to the third place in the current standing, Austria’s dominating team for recent years suffered their second setback in the third match they have contested so far. Once again, Aich/Dob’s head coach Matjaz Hafner could not count on a full roster on Thursday.
Mladost Zagreb head coach Davor Meringer: “I am satisfied with the way my team played today. We executed the game plan we had agreed upon to perfection. My players seemed more motivated and concentrated than our opponents were. I hope it goes on like this!”
“Congratulations to the Mladost ZAGREB players on their comprehensive victory. They were highly motivated – most probably because they had suffered a home loss in their MEVZA League opener against OK Merkur MARIBOR a week ago”, AICH/DOB’s head coach Matjaz Hafner explained.
Konstantin Cupkovic and Tomislav Mitrasinovic top scored for Mladost ZAGREB with 17 and 9 points, respectively. AICH/DOB’s Victor Hugo Miranda de Alcantara managed to put nine to his name. Match Stats: spikes 33 vs 27, aces 5 vs 1, blocks 8 vs 3 and opponent errors 29 vs 19.
The next MEVZA League match will be taking place on Saturday night, when last season’s bronze medallists Union Raiffeisen WALDVIERTEL will welcome Calcit KAMNIK from Slovenia at their home in Zwettl.
