KASTELA celebrate home win against Final Four hosts NOVA GORICA

In the women’s MEVZA League, Final Four tournament hosts GEN-I Volley NOVA GORICA (SLO) suffered a 1-3 (20-25, 13-25, 25-20, 21-25) away loss at the hands of OK KASTELA (CRO) on Tuesday evening. As a result, their win-loss record dropped to 5-5, while the next-to-last team in the current standing recorded their third win in the competition. KASTELA’s Elena Vukic and Nika Stanovic topped the charts with 18 and 17 points, respectively. NOVA GORICA’s Anna Spanou managed to put 14 points to her name.

The quest for the two remaining Final Four spots is going to resume with three fixtures next weekend. On Saturday, Calcit Volley KAMNIK (SLO) will meet OK KASTELA (CRO), while ZOK Bimal-Jedinstvo BRCKO (BIH) will face GEN-I Volley NOVA GORICA (SLO) and bottom of the table UOK Banjaluka Volley BANJA LUKA (BIH) will host Nova KBM Branik MARIBOR (SLO) on Sunday. The reigning Slovenian champions have already secured the top place in the main round two weeks ago.

In the men’s competition Calcit Volley KAMNIK (SLO) want to improve their chances to clinch a Final Four berth with a home win over Mladost Ribola KASTELA (CRO) on Wednesday. “We are currently not in the best position to qualify for the Final Four, but we still have it in our hands. There are three more games that we simply have to win,” Calcit Volley head coach Gasper Ribic explained.

On Saturday table leaders and defending champions ACH Volley LJUBLJANA (SLO) will be trying to secure the first place. On the other hand, OK Merkur MARIBOR (SLO) will finalise their MEVZA League campaign with an away match at Mladost Ribola KASTELA.
