Calcit Volley clinch the top spot in the men’s MEVZA League with win over Aich/Dob

Calcit Volley KAMNIK (SLO) have taken the lead in the men’s MEVZA League after beating past season’s silver-medallists SK Zadruga Aich/Dob (AUT) in straight sets (25-22, 25-17, 25-20) on Saturday night. Miha Bregar and Milosz Hebda split the best scorer’s honours for the winning team with 14 points each, while AICH/DOB’s Ivan Kolev managed to put 12 points to his name.

“The performance of AICH/DOB was not as good as expected, while we played a very solid game and all of our players reached their top level. If I had to point out someone, it would be Andrej Stembergar Zupana because of his serves. I am very happy for him, as well as for the whole team after the two defeats we had suffered before”, Calcit Volley head coach Marko Brumen was satisfied with the attitude shown by his team.

Matjaz Hafner, head coach of AICH/DOB, on the other hand, was desperately disappointed: “I will not use this Wednesday’s very intense Champions League clash with Mladost ZAGREB as an excuse. Well, we were tired but not even the determination was at the highest level. In the decisive moments we made some stupid mistakes. We didn’t deserve to win!”

OK MARIBOR (SLO) celebrated a 3-1 (25-21, 26-28, 25-19, 25-12) home win over Mladost BRCKO (BIH). As a result, the hosts moved up to sixth place in the current standing. Man of the match was the just 17 years old Rok Mozic, who stood out with 22 points. Jovan Delic hammered 17 points for the away side.

“Congratulations to my players, they delivered an impressive performance. Mladost BRCKO are a quality team but we presented ourselves very focused. It is also important for us that the spectators got their money’s worth,” OK MARIBOR head coach Sebastijan Skorc was extremely happy with the second win in their MEVZA League campaign.
